Born in Miami, Florida, Joaquin has lived in the quaint little town of St. Mary’s since age four. As a teen, he closely witnessed the last years of life of a close family friend who lived in a nursing home. He saw the trials faced by elders in large facilities and began to dream about one day opening a small facility which would be like a family home, with meals cooked from scratch in the kitchen, and personalized care and activities. Upon graduating from Washburn Tech, he entered the workforce in customer relations, and began the journey to open his first Home Plus facility.
Our Lady of Guadalupe Home Plus, licensed in 2025, was created from this dream. Placed under the patronage of Our Lady of Guadalupe, patroness of the Americas of all human life, we strive to provide a compassionate home where our elders will be cared for by staff who truly respect them as individuals.

As your Guadalupe Home Plus Operator and Director of Nursing, it is Karen’s privilege to assist and welcome seniors and their families who are wanting a safe, clean, loving home environment in which to enjoy their golden years.
With an extensive RN background in geriatric/ dementia nursing, ICU/CCU, telemetry, Burn Unit, and Emergency Room, she will provide your family member with diverse, specialized acute and chronic healthcare services. Our cna and cma staff members are highly qualified and happy to assist our residents in maintaining an optimal quality of life and functional ability.
Having lived in and around Saint Mary’s since 2007 after coming from a big city environment, she can tell you nothing compares to our serene, peaceful, small town atmosphere.
